Abstract:

The overall goal of this review is to discuss the potential efficacy of herbal treatments. plants are considered among the main sources of biologically active chemicals. Plant based drugs usage in our past decay became very renowned due to their fewer side effects and being less expensive than chemical ones. Recently, more abrupt tendency in this field has been increased. Furthermore, advances in molecular and cellular determinations revealed effective properties of these herbal components. Some plants extracts have shown multi-functional properties such as anti-oxidant, anti-amyloid, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory, further studies, besides, are required for detailed chemical characterization and more extensive biological evaluation of the most active ingredients. In summary, herbals can be considered as novel therapeutic approach against wide range of diseases. This review article draws the attention to some species of plants possessing biological activities on human health.

Abstract:

1. The screening for potential anti-malaria properties by bioassay guided fractionations. The biological properties were carried out using the plasmodium lactate dehydrogenase assay (pLDH) (Makler, 1993). 2. The harmful effect of the extract was determined by the MTT assay (Mossman, 1983). 3. The extracts were tested for its efficacy in animal model using rodent malaria parasite, P. berghei using the 4 Days Suppressive Test by Peters and Robinson, 1975. 4. The parasite and the host cell biology were investigated to determine the role of the drug on the biology of the host cells and the erythrocyte invasion pathways. 5. The probable mode of actions were also investigated through known mechanism of action such as the Heam Polymerization Assays (Basilico et al., 1997). The biologiccal screening was carried out using the pLDH assay, triplicate test were carried out at different time to ensure the reproducibility of the results. The data was analysed using probit analysis. The invivo assay was by 4 days suppressive test, For each parasite strain, 4 groups of mice with different doses given orally were used, each having 5 mice and another 4 groups of mice with the same doses given s/c and each group having as the earlier. The standard control used was chlorouine and the design was similar to the test group except that the oral and s/c doses were according to the standard dose from standard procedure by Peters and Robinson, 1975. Mode of actions, parasite erythorcyte invasion assay were according to known procedure. 30% of the local medicinal plants screened have potentials for anti-malarial. The herbal preparation of the E.longifolia standardized extracts were able to supressed the infection of the rodent malaria more than 80%. Detail results will be discuss in the presentation. E. longifolia herbal standardized extracts have potential for anti-malaria drug.

Abstract:

Conventional methods for extraction of the active constituents from herbal plants, in addition to their high processing costs, are harmful to the environment owing to their time and energy consumption, uncontrollable parameters, use of toxic and dangerous solvents, loss of the extract, thermal instability, the contamination of the product with organic solvents and the loss of water-soluble compounds, and venting Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC). The use of supercritical fluids, especially supercritical carbon dioxide, is the most suitable option for extracting active constituents from the herbal plants. In this study, Due to the abundance of "Urtica dioica" (nettle) and "Sambucus ebulus" (elderberry) in Guilan province and the presence of valuable substances in them, the active constituents of these two plants and their application, the method of planting and extracting their valuable substances have been studied. Various methods were applied to extract active constituents from these two plants. Supercritical CO2 is an attractive alternative process for traditional solvent extraction CO2 was used in a process, and then recovered to use again. There have been an increasing number of commercialized production plants utilizing supercritical fluids extraction process. This article summarized and presented this environmentally friendly process for the extraction of active constituents from herbal plants to replace traditional techniques to reduce the environmental impact of the extraction process.

Abstract:

Background and Aim: Despite the tendency to use herbs and herbal medicine, less scientific documents have been published on the problems and necessities of using these types of drugs, especially on side effects, plant health and even drug interactions. Materials and Methods: In this study, in order to review and critique the scientific documents related to the challenges of production and consumption of medicinal plants, review studies by examining sources by exploring scientific sources from Science Direct, Google Scholar, PubMed, Magiran and SID databases. The original Gigalib Digital Library was used to prepare the original reports. The terms "herbs", "adverse effects", "side effects", "drug-herbal interactions" and "complementary medicine" were used to search between 2000 and 2018. The fundamental questions of the study were whether the medicinal plants and herbal medicines offered have the necessary health and efficiency for public consumption? And will indiscriminate use of chemical drugs increase the effectiveness of drugs or not? Findings: Results indicated the multiplicity of scientific reports related to the medicinal and therapeutic effects of medicinal plants. Factors such as advertising, culture and dislike of chemical drugs are involved in the tendency to use them. There were numerous reports of unhealthy production and fraud in medicinal plants and lack of expertise in prescribing and medication of medicinal plants and herbal medicines. Conclusion: The use of herbal medicines is not without risk. Conscious use of herbs and attention to their possible side effects and drug interactions is recommended. Standardization of medicinal plant production processes is also necessary to ensure part of their efficiency and safety.

Abstract:

Herbs are natural products and herbal medicine has become a popular form of healthcare. herbal-derived remedies may increase pharmacological qualities and improve prevention and treatment of several diseases. In this study, all relevant articles in English language were collected. Keywords of milk thistle, myrrh, mint and natural products were searched in Google Scholar, Scopus, Research Gate and PubMed databases. Milk thistile is a valuable widely-consumed botanical used for its various health benefits. The plant is an annual herb, belonging to Asteraceae family, which ripe seeds contain flavonoid substances. Myrrh is a sap-like substance, which is released from cuts in the barks of trees. The plant is a member of Commiphora genus. Mentha spicata is a species of mint native to Europe and South-East Asia. Mint is a creeping rhizomatous and perennial herb. In this mini-review, key roles and pharmaceutical benefits of milk thistle, myrrh and mint are described.

Abstract:

Burn is one of the major causes of death and disability in the world. It can cause by heat, chemicals, electricity, sunlight or radiation. More burns caused by fires in buildings, contact with boiling water, steam, liquids and flammable gases. Accelerating the process of healing has always been of interest to practitioners because these injuries are usually takes long time to be healed. Therefore, proper treatment and care of this type of wound required to accelerate healing, prevent infection and chronicity. In traditional medicine, due to the high vegetation diversity and breadth of our country, the use of herbs for burns healing and lesions of various etiologies, has been intesified. Various studies on burn wound healing properties of medicinal plants have been performed. In this article, we refered to reliable sites for evaluating of 10 plants including Amebia euchroma, Green Tea, Hypericum perforatum, Centella asiatica, Scrophularia striata, Aloe vera, Cydonia Oblongae seeed, Malva sylvestris, Calendula officinalis and Myrtusto compare the restorative properties of a number of important medicinal plant flora of Iran on accelerating the process of wounds healing of burn in order to provide effective medicinal plant sources are addressed.
